SWEET TOOTH - Inborn or Made?
Ah, feel guilty no more. Blame it on your genes if you are partial to sweet foods! After analyzing the genetic profiles of 146 adults from 26 families, Finnish doctor Markus Perola, M.D., Ph.D concluded that the preference for sweet food isn’t a learned behaviour but the genetic make-up during “leaner times” as these have high calorie content to sustain life.
In short, sweet foods provide an “evolutionary edge” to get going. But having a weakness for sweet treats doesn’t make you weak, it’s just in your survivor genes. If you’ve been craving whole day for something sugary-sweet, go for it!
